Liam wakes up so nicely. He is sleeping in our room and when he awakes he simply sits up and says "ma" and reaches his arms out to be picked up. He has a smile on his face before he has even been lifted out of the crib. He takes a bottle after waking up as well as before nap and before bed. It is good to help with attachment as well as to help put on some extra pounds and to work on strengthening his oral muscles.
Liam doesn't miss a meal. We are still feeding him most of each meal as we continue to teach him to trust that we will be here to provide and care for him and he readily accepts our help. However, he likes a turn to feed himself too and is doing a great job.
Therapy time. The best part about therapy for a 2 year old is that it is almost all play. He officially starts his physical therapy next week along with speech therapy (it has all been evaluations and goal setting thus far).
Liam's friend Lola gave him this puzzle. She is 4 years old now and this puzzle got too easy for her so she wanted to help Liam. He can do it with only a little help.
Work first...
...play later. I have nicknamed the tunnel 'Liam's man cave' as he likes to take his toys in there to play!
Re-arranging mom's freezer while she gets the dishes done.
Liam has the 3 best block building siblings this side of the Mississippi. Good for lots of belly laughs as he drives his truck into the tower.
Liam and Max and Toby have accepted each other. There is still a curiosity about the other (both ways) but for now they mostly co-exist.
Ryan helping Liam with a snack after his nap. All three kids are oh so helpful.
Does this look mischievous or what?! Bedtime routine starts after dinner with a walk around the neighborhood followed by bath. His favorite thing right now is to stick the foam letters on the side of the tub.
Liam loves getting snuggled in his towel after bath.
After bath, Steve and I take Liam into his own room for an attempt at massaging a 2 year old (use your imagination). We then rock him while he gets his bottle and the other one reads. Right now we are reading 2Peter so we can follow along with a bible study Ryan just started. Liam's other favorite (okay, our other favorite) is 'Where the Sidewalk Ends'. His crib is in our bedroom and we sing him the same 3 lullabies we started in China. Once I start singing, it is like someone turned his "off" switch for the night and he lies down without hesitation. He sleeps like an angel through the night. Sweet Dreams Beautiful Boy!
I can honestly tell you that I am loving every single second of every single day with Liam in our family and in our lives. I could never have imagined in a million years the feelings I would have for this little boy. Probably like every parent, both biological and adopted, you worry about what your feelings will be like for your child. After all, how can you love this many people this deeply?! I have many times wondered how God could love us ALL that he would give the life of His son, Jesus for us.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
The world, God so loves the world. As my friend Cherie would say, can I just dwell on that for a minute! Well if God can love the world, I know it must be through His grace that I can love 4 children as much as I do.
Lots of love,
Paige, Steve, Lauren, Jenna, Ryan and Liam

Paige, how beautiful! Because we pray things are different. You prayed for Liam, you prayed for his healing during the transition, you asked for God to prepare him and you...and that is exactly what God did! Liam is beautiful, as are all of your children!
ReplyDeleteLiam does get cuter every day! And he looks so happy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post about Liam. I really enjoyed following your adoption trip and am so happy to read how well the transition has been going. Liam is such a cutie!

Another Loudi Blessing
Just got home from an evening of Couple's Bridge, and your folks were there...Connie says she is already looking into plane reservations to get back to St. Louis to see more of Liam(and the other grandkids, of course!) This last set of pictures just make my heart swell with JOY for you and the entire family. You know how I have shared before with you various scriptures and "pearls of wisdom" from The Upper Room Devotional that I love. Another one that touched me recently was about prayer and how God actually has three answers for us when we come to him....1)Yes, 2)No, 3) Wait awhile, I have something better in mind ! In thinking about that, I have decided to make my prayers of petition a bit different, Now when I pray for someone or some specific situation that I feel should be resolved to my way of thinking, I am always adding on: "God, grant me patience to wait for your plans, which will ultimately be the best outcome !" So, in the next months, when your patience might wear thin in getting Liam "caught up" in the various areas of therapy, remember to rely on God's timeline, for it will ultimately be the best outcome. Much Love, Sandy Matthews
ReplyDeleteOh, my heart swells looking at the joy in that boy's eyes. He already looks so much more solid in sitting and moving and - dare I say - he appears to have put on some pounds! I love that you are loving this process and pray that the joy of your journey only deepens.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for allowing us to continue following you throught he blog!
